THE STILLNESS OF WINTER

DECEMBER 2024 ASTROLOGY

Winter tends to be a reflective time, ushering us indoors to retreat into ourselves. Retrograde season further drives in this message: to rest, recuperate, recalibrate, reconsider. Sweep the deck, clean the sails while we wait for the weather to pass. 

In winter, we embrace the barren branches. We find comfort in knowing that things must fall away to make space for the spring. We find beauty in the seasons.

We gently let go, allowing the leaves to pass. We remind ourselves that the void is not emptiness, but rather endless potential of possibilities. Possibilities that make itself known in the spring. Coming into fruition in the summer when the days begin to linger long.

We embrace the cold yin of winter. We sit in the wisdom of its silence. We sit in the wisdom of Sagittarius, seeing beyond the present fabric of reality, recognizing the potential of all that is possible. We sit in the wisdom of Capricorn, recognizing that it is not enough to dream—but that we need concrete foundations in order to birth our dreams into reality. 

Winter is a moment of pause: to reflect, to be present, and to look to the future. 

NEW MOON IN SAGITTARIUS

We start the month off with a hopeful new moon during the middle of Mercury’s retrograde in Sagittarius. Rather than implementing something entirely brand new, this lunation encourages looking back on past patterns and explore new ways of looking at things. 

MARS RETROGRADE IN LEO TO CANCER

We are forced to slow down these next few months. Whether it is through external circumstances or personal burnout—embrace the time to take a breather. Sure, it could be frustrating to not take big strides towards the objects of your desire. But rest is part of the creative process. Allowing time to digest and unpack all that has unfolded through retrograde season and through 2024. These past two months have been especially emotionally intense for many of us. 

GEMINI FULL MOON

Mid-month, the Gemini full moon makes contact with Neptune in Pisces. Emotional misunderstandings can come to a head. It is easy to act on fantasies of escapism. Our dreams can seem to foretell a foreboding truth but it is hard to discern what is truth and what are projections of our subconscious. Conversations regarding truths can feel extra slippery right now, perhaps going in an unintended or unproductive direction. Practice patience and discernment before acting on impressions of ‘truth.’ Put off major decisions or important conversations until the New Year, if possible.

SATURN PISCES T-SQUARE WITH JUPITER GEMINI OPPOSITE MERCURY SAGITTARIUS 

Saturn serves as a bit of a reality check in a mutable T-Square involving Jupiter & Mercury around Christmas. There is a desire to reshape our beliefs and how we express our beliefs. We analyze the structure around our belief systems, perhaps finding the need to reconstruct it in some way, or realizing the systems we’ve subconsciously inherited are not operating systems we want to continue to carry into the future.
